I have to admit, I\u2019m not much of an audiophile. I enjoy music mostly as a sensory experience, and if it doesn\u2019t sound pleasant, I tend not to like it much. There aren\u2019t many songs where I listen to the lyrics, too. So when he asked me that question, I had to go with \u201cLong Road\/Long Ride Home\u201d by Patty Griffin (I\u2019m not sure what the actual title is; I\u2019ve seen both).<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jillbertini\/16189075303\/in\/photolist-o2TT4J-tGzVQJ-t2TvEj-qEzf4Z-phJ6sU-oRRzct-o5rqbE-nV9UQt-nCXD2E-nCXEzE-nCXYqw-jBeCAj-imYUTo-h1pcEy-gAQGgL-gASH7F-gATesZ-gjjfiG-gtkD2R-gFQZ43\" title=\"car lights\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8703\/16189075303_a8c6dc6736.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" alt=\"car lights\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>I started to tell him the story in the song, about a man whose wife has died and he is thinking back about their marriage. It\u2019s this verse that gets me:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Forty years go by with someone laying in your bed<br \/>\nForty years of things you say you wish you&#8217;d never said<br \/>\nHow hard would it have been to say some kinder words instead<br \/>\nI wonder as I stare up at the sky turning red<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I love this song because it makes me feel something deeply, and there isn\u2019t a lot of music that does that for me.
